Background
The Kurri Kurri Netball Facility Project, located within Booth Park, aims to deliver much-needed upgrades to the park’s sporting infrastructure. The project will enhance local participation in netball, benefit school groups and community organisations, and provide the capacity to host netball tournaments and events in Kurri Kurri.
In May 2021, Cessnock City Council resolved to relocate the Kurri Kurri Netball Courts from Molly Worthington Netball Facility to Booth Park to meet the future needs of netball in the Kurri Kurri Planning Area.
A draft concept plan was developed and placed on public exhibition, and a community meeting was held on 16 June 2022. During this meeting, impacted stakeholders shared concerns about road conditions, parking, traffic, noise, and stormwater drainage issues.
In 2022, as part of the Federal election, a $7.5 million funding commitment was made to Council, enabling the project to progress to detailed designs for the new facility. The concerns raised by residents during the 2022 community meeting have been noted and incorporated into the final design.
