Scope of Works

The Kurri Kurri Town Centre Upgrade involved a significant investment in enhancing the commercial centre along Lang Street, Kurri Kurri, between Alexandra Street and Merthyr Street. The $5.6 million project focused on upgrading the public domain, improving the aesthetic appeal, and providing vital infrastructure to support the economic growth of the town centre.

Key improvements include:

  • Street tree planting and landscaping
  • New footpaths/paving
  • Pedestrian crossings
  • Street furniture
  • Upgraded lighting
  • Line marking and signage
  • Minor pavement repairs and resurfacing

The project was delivered in multiple stages to minimise disruption to local businesses and residents, ensuring pedestrian access was maintained throughout construction.


Funding

The project was primarily funded by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Resources for Regions Fund, with contributions from both Cessnock City Council and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

  • NSW Government Restart NSW Resources for Regions Fund (Round 6): $3,647,900
  • Australian Government LRCI Program: $1,397,725
  • Cessnock City Council: $520,000

Additional works at Col Brown Rotary Park were supported by $480,189 from the NSW Government Restart NSW Resources for Regions Fund (Round 7).


Project Outcomes

This project has delivered a more attractive, accessible, and functional town centre, providing an improved environment for businesses, residents, and visitors. The revitalisation efforts will support Kurri Kurri’s long-term economic sustainability, encouraging further development and investment in the area.

This project was part of Council’s Operational Plan, with Project IDs CTK 2020 001 and CTK 2021 001.
