PACK OF LIES

How would your life change if you were told your neighbours were spies?

Bob and Barbara Jackson and their daughter Julie live in a quiet run-of-the-mill London suburb in the early 1960s. The fun-loving neighbours across the road, Helen and Peter Kroger from Canada, are their best friends.  When a self-described “civil servant” pays a visit to the Jacksons asking to use their daughter’s upstairs bedroom for a surveillance operation for a few days, the family’s sheltered life is thrown into turmoil. Days turn into weeks and the Jacksons are put to the test in the face of mounting evidence that their friends are spies. Who to betray – their friends or their country?

First staged in 1983, Pack of Lies, by British playwright Whitemore, is based on the true events surrounding the most significant spy operation in London in the middle of the Cold War, involving what was dubbed The Portland Spy Ring.

Valley Artists have been bringing top-notch theatre to the Cessnock LGA for over 20years. They are renowned for the quality of their productions, sets and technical design. This play, delayed for nearly two years due to COVID, will be no exception. The venue will be compliant with current health guidelines. The event is licensed and located adjacent to GNTP where meals are available to patrons.
