Our Bushland Festival is back for its third year on the weekend of 6, 7 and 8 September and promises to be bigger and better than ever with lots of exciting events and activities for all ages to enjoy!
We invite you to join us for one or all of the following free events that form part of the Our Bushland Festival, which celebrates the unique flora and fauna of the Cessnock area:
Our Bushland Storytime @ your local library
Cessnock City Libraries will host special bushland focused storytime events during the week leading up to the Our Bushland Festival. Bring the kids along for special readings of: The Forgotten Song: Saving the Regent Honey Eater, Bowerbird Blues, and The Bower Bird.
Twilight Tales - Friday 6 September
In an exciting new addition to the Our Bushland Festival, we're proud to introduce Twilight Tales - a free outdoor cinema event taking place from 5 to 7.30pm on Friday 6 September at the Hunter Valley Visitor Information Centre.
The festivities kick off at 5pm with live music by the talented Sandy Summers, leading into a screening of the beloved environmental film, The Lorax.
Bring a picnic or savor delicious offerings from Bonjour Crepes or a BBQ hosted by the Cessnock Hornets Football Club. Don’t forget to bring your own chair and picnic rug for maximum comfort.

Spotlights and Stars - Saturday 7 September
Discover the magic of our bushland at night at our Spotlights and Stars event.
Led by knowledgeable local ecologists, this event offers a rare opportunity to explore our bushland after dark and witness nocturnal insects, bats, frogs, and mammals in their natural habitat.
This year, we're thrilled to unveil an exciting addition to our ever-popular spotlighting event: a captivating stargazing talk that promises to elevate your experience under the stars.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast, avid stargazer, or simply curious about the mysteries of the night, Spotlights and Stars promises to be an unforgettable adventure for all ages.

Our Bushland Festival - Sunday 8 September
Our Bushland Festival will culminate with an action-packed day of fun, food, live entertainment and adventure from 9.30am to 3pm on Sunday 8 September at Poppethead Park, Kitchener.
Key highlights on the day include:
- Guided bushwalks with knowledgeable local experts and ecologists
- Exciting mini workshops where you can learn fascinating insights about the environment and conservation efforts
- Animal talks and displays including snakes and reptiles with Jabiru Wildlife and Tassie Devils with Aussie Ark.
- Kids passport and activities including bracelet making with Resourceful Living
- Imaginaturalists all day drop in session and art gallery
- Vibrant market and food stalls by local artisans and producers
- Live music performances throughout the day, featuring talented local artists like Isaac Compton, Trinity Woodhouse, Mackenzie Lee, Dirt Road Tribute, Chain Daisy, and Sandy Summers
