Exciting news about the Kurri Kurri Town Centre Upgrade project, which is set to inject over $3 million into revitalising the central business district. The masterplan's objective is to refresh the commercial centre, attract new business and redevelopment, improve accessibility, preserve heritage characteristics, and activate the public domain for a range of uses such as outdoor dining, retail, festivals, and events. This project will provide essential investment into key infrastructure and services, broadening and expanding the economic base of Kurri Kurri and ensuring a great future for our community.
In 2019, Council was successful in obtaining funding from the NSW Government's Resources for Regions Round 7 Program for the completion of stage 1 of the Kurri Kurri Masterplan, which focused on revitalising Lang Street between Alexander and Merthyr Street. Despite significant delays due to design issues, resourcing challenges, and tender non-conformances, the project is now moving forward, and we are committed to delivering a transformed Kurri Kurri CBD that will benefit our community for years to come.
As ANZAC Day approaches on 25 April, Cessnock City Library is organising two free bus tours of war memorials around our local government area. War memorials hold significant historical importance, and our library has compiled a complete inventory of local war memorials through the Exploring our Memorials grant from the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs. The bus tours will explore both well-known and lesser-known memorials, sharing their fascinating stories and raising awareness about our local history. The tours will take place on Friday, 14tApril and Friday, 21 April, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, departing and returning to Bridges Hill Park in Cessnock. A morning tea catered by the Cessnock Men's Shed will conclude the tours, providing an opportunity for reflection and appreciation.
As we wrap up the Easter holiday season, I hope everyone had a refreshing break and had the opportunity to spend quality time with their loved ones. I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to our essential workers, who continue to work tirelessly to keep our community running during this time. Your dedication and hard work are truly appreciated. As always, please feel free to reach out to Council if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. Your feedback is invaluable as we work together to make Cessnock City a thriving and vibrant community.
