Councillor Jurd and I had the privilege of attending the 2023 Local Roads Congress on June 5th at NSW Parliament House. This annual event, which was first held in 2005, brings together mayors, councillors, and executives from local councils to address policy issues related to roads and transportation. The congress aims to improve roads and transport outcomes, focusing on policy matters rather than technicalities. This year’s discussions focussed on enhancing road infrastructure, improving connectivity, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of transportation systems.

Councillor Jackson and myself are also attending the National General Assembly of the Australia Local Government Association, alongside Council General Manager Ken Liddell. The conference provides an important forum to collaborate with Ministers and other local government representatives and to identify opportunities to design federal programs and policies that support local councils to enhance service delivery and build stronger communities.

Looking ahead, I am excited to join with local families to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Cessnock Multipurpose Children's Centre. Established in 1963, this non-profit, community-based organisation has been providing high-quality and affordable childcare to children in our community. With a strong commitment to excellence and assisting each child to reach their full potential, the centre has been an important part of our community for six decades. As someone who attended the centre myself, and whose children now do, I look the forward to witnessing the positive impact the Cessnock Multipurpose Children's Centre will have on the next generation.

I hope many of you are also able to join me at the upcoming Hunter Valley Wildlife Park Community Day on June 18th. For $15 per person, visitors can enjoy the park's diverse animal exhibits and expansive grounds. It's a special event to show gratitude to the resilient Cessnock community, offering a day of joy and relaxation amidst the challenges we've faced over the last few years. Come together, connect with the animal family, and celebrate the exceptional place we call home.

Cessnock City Council is giving away two double passes for an exclusive animal encounter, available only to those attending the event, as well as funding entry for 50 people with mobility impairments and their carers. The Hunter Valley Wildlife Park has been a beloved location for fun family experiences for a generation of Cessnock residents. Their inaugural Community Day will celebrate all that is great about our community, highlighting the unique attractions and experiences that make Cessnock an exceptional place to live and visit. Join us for an unforgettable day at Hunter Valley Wildlife Park, forging stronger community connections and creating lasting memories.
