Have Your Say on Flood Warning Improvements in the Hunter
Published on 01 March 2025
The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is leading the Hunter and Upper Macquarie River Flood Warning Improvement Project, in collaboration with the Bureau of Meteorology, NSW State Emergency Service, and councils within the study area.
This is not a Cessnock City Council project, but we encourage our community to have their say.
The project aims to assess and prioritise upgrades to the existing flood warning network, including:
- Upgrades to existing flood gauges
- Installation of new flood gauges
- Identification of new flood warning service locations
It will also support community awareness of any changes to the flood warning system.
Initial draft recommendations for improvements have been developed, and community feedback is now being sought.

Community members are invited to review the draft recommendations and provide feedback before submissions close on Sunday 16 March 2025.
