Council has opened its latest round of Community, Sporting and Environment Grants, with a total of $96,000 available to support initiatives aimed at enhancing community life across the Cessnock Local Government Area. The grant program is designed to support local community, environment and sporting groups, with funding for minor capital works, equipment purchases and projects that boost community engagement, wellbeing and cultural growth, enhance the local environment, or foster community pride.

These grants reflect Council’s commitment to support those who work tirelessly to improve our local environment, cultural scene and sporting facilities. To apply, please review the grant guidelines and eligibility criteria available on Council’s website here. Be sure to submit your application by 5pm Friday, 13 September 2024.

With rates notices now reaching mailboxes, I want to remind residents experiencing financial hardship that support is available. If you are struggling, Council is here to assist you in getting back on track. For guidance and support, please contact us at 4993 4100 or email council@cessnock.nsw.gov.au.

I’d also like to remind residents that Council’s waste vouchers are now available in a digital format through our Waste App. Each household will receive two general waste vouchers and four resource recovery vouchers every six months. This digital solution simplifies managing your waste needs, from green waste to building materials, ensuring no more lost vouchers.

To use your digital vouchers, simply download the free Cessnock Waste App from Google Play or the Apple App Store, select ‘vouchers,’ enter your details, and your vouchers will be readily available on your phone. For those who prefer paper vouchers, they remain available upon request through our website here or by contacting our Customer Relations team.

Our popular Bushland Festival is returning for its third year and is set to be bigger and better than ever. This year we have an exciting line-up of events from Friday 6 September to Sunday 8 September 2024. On Friday evening, we invite you to the inaugural Twilight Tales – a free outdoor cinema event from 5:00-7:30pm at the Hunter Valley Visitor Information Centre. There will be live music from 5pm featuring local artist Sandy Summers, followed by a movie screening of The Lorax.

You won’t go hungry on the night as the Cessnock Hornets Football Club fires up the BBQ, and all funds raised will go towards supporting the local team. For those craving a sweet treat, Bonjour Crepes will also be on hand serving delicious crepes. You can reserve your free tickets now via this link.
