Cessnock City Council will host a two-day Economic Empowerment Workshop in partnership with The Business Centre, from 9.00am – 3.00pm on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October 2024 at Cessnock Leagues Club, designed for young women looking to start a business.

The in-person workshop is open to women under 25 who are considering a new venture or exploring a potential business idea.

Over the two sessions, participants will gain practical and fundamental skills in areas such as understanding different business structures, the importance of business insurance, financial management, effective marketing strategies, and more. This hands-on approach will equip attendees with the tools they need to transform their business ideas into reality.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Daniel Watton strongly encouraged all eligible women to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

"It’s wonderful to see Council partner with The Business Centre to offer this empowering workshop to support young women in confidently taking their first steps towards running their own business," said Clr Watton.

"With women representing 55% of small business owners in our local government area, it’s vital we provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed and thrive."

Additional support is available to women who have experienced domestic and family violence, or are at risk or experiencing homelessness, with priority placement and ongoing business support from The Business Centre.

Thanks to ClubGrants funding, this workshop is free of charge. An additional networking opportunity will also be available from 3-4pm each day, for those who wish to connect with fellow participants and mentors.
