In This Together - National Reconciliation Week 2020
Published on 18 May 2020
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) takes place from 27 May to 3 June 2020 and while Cessnock City Council won’t be able to host its annual Elders Morning Tea, they will take to social media to raise awareness.
NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The theme for NRW 2020 is, In This Together, and the current climate reminds us that whether in crisis or reconciliation, we are all in this together!
Throughout NRW, Council will highlight on its social channels important dates and events, as well as share some awesome online resources that promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and languages.
Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said that while we can’t go ahead with our annual event, it is still so important that as a community we raise awareness and continue to build understanding.
“Recognising NRW is an important part of Council’s commitment to creating meaningful change both within our organisation and in the community,” said Cr Pynsent.
“I encourage everyone to keep an eye on Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages throughout NRW for historical information and links to films, documentaries, books, ABC education resources and more,” added Cr Pynsent.
