Mortuaries, cemeteries and crematoria

NSW Health is the regulating body for mortuaries, cemeteries and crematoria practices.

The Public Health Act 2010 and Public Health Regulation 2012 regulates the handling of bodies by both the funeral industry and members of the public.

Mortuary facilities must register with NSW Health, are subject to requirements under the Local Government Act 1993 and may be subject to Cessnock City Council audits.
